BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Houston
During the early 1970s and 80’s, a handful of Swaminarayan devotees in the Houston area began weekly meetings at each other’s homes to hold religious gatherings. As the number of devotees and the Asian Indian community in the surrounding area steadily increased, a Hindu Mandir in 1988 was inaugurated on a five-acre land adjacent to where the current traditional Mandir stands.
India House
The mission of India House is to unite cultures, create bridges, and address community issues by bringing resources, education, services, and Indian culture to Houston. It seeks to assist the economically challenged, senior citizens, and children. It offers a variety of free programs and services to boost the mental and physical well-being of the community, and it takes pride in hosting many community events, such as informational seminars.
Rani’s World Foods
This ethnic grocery store specializes in Indian, British, Mediterranean, Pakistani, and Jamaican foods. It boasts of having the largest Indian foods section in Houston and a daily variety of different foods. Fresh produce is brought in twice a week, and the store offers nationwide shipping for its products, except produce, frozen, or refrigerated items.
